OCS: How did you get into cosplay? Come hai iniziato a fare cosplay?
I decided it was something I wanted to do after my first ever comic con. Seeing so many cosplayers there made me want to do the same with my favorite characters. I started with Lexa.
Ho deciso che era un qualcosa che avrei voluto fare dopo il mio primo romics. Vedere tutti quei cosplayer lì mi ha fatto venire voglia di fare la stessa cosa con i miei personaggi preferiti. Ho cominciato con Lexa.
OCS: How did you discover you had talent to create the templates and items? Come hai scoperto che avevi il talento di creare template e oggetti?
I didn’t know until I tried lol . Watching a lot of tutorials on youtube helped a lot.
Non lo sapevo finchè non ho provato lol. Guardare molti tutorial su youtube ha aiutato però.
OCS: What was the first item you ever made? Qual è il primo oggetto che hai creato?
It was the shoulder piece of the Lexa cosplay. Not an easy one to start with ahah

OCS: From concept to finished product how long did it take to make Ava’s outfit? Dall’idea al prodotto finale quanto tempo hai impiegato per fare il cosplay di Ava?
Two months, more or less.
Due mesi più o meno.
OCS: Can you go into some of the details about the outfit? How did you make the Halo in the vest? How did you make it light up? Puoi entrare di più nel dettaglio riguardo l’outfit? Come hai fatto a far brillare l’Aureola nella giacca?
Most of the outfit is made out of eva foam, except for the body suit that is made of leather. The vest is also all foam. The Halo on the back is basically a led string between two sheets of foam, where the upper piece has the Halo pattern cut off. The string is powered with a power bank that I hid under the vest.
La maggior parte dell’outfit è fatto di EVA foam, tranne che la tuta di pelle. La giacca anche è fatta di foam. L’Aureola dietro è praticamente una striscia di led tra due fogli di foam, con il foglio superiore tagliato con il pattern dell’Aureola. La striscia è alimentata con un power bank nascosto sotto la giacca.
OCS: What about the sword? Where did you get the template? Can you go into the process from start to finish? Riguardo la spada? Dove hai preso il template? Puoi descrivere il processo da inizio a fine?
The sword was the first thing I wanted to do. It was even before even considering cosplaying Ava, I wanted it more like a collection piece. I made the template myself looking at the reference photo shared by Cristina Sopeña. The blade is made of epoxy resin with the blue colorant. I carved the shape out of the resin block once it was dry. The handle instead is made of three 3D printed pieces. I also made those templates myself.
La spada è stata la prima cosa che ho voluto fare. Prima ancora di decidere di fare il cosplay, la volevo come pezzo da collezione. Ho creato il template da sola utilizzando le foto di riferimento condivise da Cristina Sopena. La lama è fatta di resina blu. Ho intagliato la forma dal blocco di resina una volta seccata. Il manico invece è formato da 3 pezzi stampati in 3D che ho creato.
OCS: Besides shock, what was your response when you saw the fandom’s love after your post? Then Simon’s post? Oltre lo shock, qual è stata la tua reazione quando hai visto l’amore del fandom dopo il post? E il post di Simon?
I was and still am so overwhelmed by all the kind and wonderful comments from the fandom for something that I did that I love so much. This fandom feels like a family. it is something I could never get used to. And then when the cast and crew also shared and commented with such beautiful words, I lost it!! I still can’t believe it all happened, I still need to go and look at the tweets every now and then…
Sono stata e lo sono ancora, sopraffatta da tutti i meravigliosi commenti da parte del fandom per un qualcosa che io amo altrettanto. Questo fandom è come una famiglia. E’ un qualcosa a cui non riuscirò mai ad abituarmi. E poi quando il cast e la crew hanno condiviso e commentato con altrettante bellissime parole, sono uscita fuori di testa!! Ancora non riesco a credere che sia successo, ogni tanto devo andare a controllare i tweet per realizzare…
Can you talk about the design process on these pictures? Puoi parlare del processo di queste foto?

Yes it is. This is actually an old version of it, the newer one had a lot more details on the halo but I don’t have a picture of it.

Yes it is. I attached the pieces only to see how it looked like, but then I actually glued them together.

This is the template of the vest. I basically put tape all over my upper body, then drew the design over it and cut all the pieces to make them out of foam.
Questo è il template della giacca. Ho praticamente utilizzato il nastro adesivo su tutta la parte superiore del corpo, disegnato sopra il design della giacca e tagliato pezzo per pezzo per farli di EVA foam.
How did you get the paper design on the foam? Come hai copiato il disegno sulla gomma EVA foam?
I cut the paper first, then used a spray paint to transfer it on the foam. You can’t see the paint because it’s on the back.
Ho ritagliato il disegno su carta e usato una bomboletta spray per trasferire il disegno su gomma. Non vedete la vernice perchè si trova nella parte posteriore.
Is that the same foam piece? How did you get it to look so different? Questo è lo stesso pezzo di sopra? Come hai fatto a farlo apparire così diverso?
Yes it’s the same. I just add the details on the cross and add a layer of plastidip.
Sì è lo stesso. Ho aggiunto solamente i dettagli sulla croce al centro e aggiunto uno strato di plastidip nero.
How did you make these? Foam, 3D printed pieces, leather buckles. Come hai fatto queste? Foam, pezzi stampati in 3D, cinte di pelle.
Same as the vest, I made a template piece of my forearm with tape, then cut it out of foam. I then glued on top 4 pieces of leather buckles (I bought an entire string of it on amazon) and the 3D printed little ocs crosses. For the round edges I used a jumping rope painted black lol.
Come per la giacca, ho fatto prima un template del mio braccio con il nastro adesivo, poi tagliato sul foam. Ho poi incollato sopra i 4 pezzi di cinta (ho comprato su Amazon un'intera striscia di pelle) e le croci dell’OCS stampate in 3D. Per fare gli estremi ho usato una corda per saltare dipinta di nero lol.
Can you talk about the leather outfit? Did you sew it together? What about the boots and belt details? Puoi parlare dell’outfit di pelle? Lo hai cucito tu? E gli stivali e la cinta?
The leather piece is a catsuit (?) I found on Vinted that was just perfect, I didn’t have to do any sewing, I just removed the arm pieces to show the shirt I had below. I later added those gray pieces of foam on it and that was it. The belt is a simple belt made of strings and the buckle is 3D printed and painted gold. The leather strings hanging on the left are made out of the same leather string I used for the armor bracelets. The boots I just had to paint them, cause I couldn’t find them black.
La tuta di pelle è un pezzo intero che ho comprato su Vinted che era semplicemente perfetto, non ho dovuto cucire niente anzi, ho rimosso le maniche per far vedere la maglietta che avevo sotto. Ho poi aggiunto sopra quei pezzi di foam grigio che vedete in foto e basta. La cinta è una semplice cinta fatta di cordini e la fibbia è stampata in 3D e dipinta d’oro. Le cinte di pelle che vedete appese alla cinta sulla sinistra, le ho ritagliate dalla striscia che ho usato per fare gli avambracci. Gli stivali li ho semplicemente dipiti di nero perchè non li ho trovati di quel colore.

Do you have your own 3D printer? Hai una tua stampante 3D?
Yes I do, I have an Ender 3.

How did you attach the handle to the sword? Come hai attaccato il manico della spada alla lama?
I used resin (cause glue didn’t work as I wanted to). The handle has a hole in it where the final piece of the blade goes, that I filled with resin, then inserted the blade and let it dry.
Ho usato la resina (perché la colla non ha funzionato come volevo). Il manico ha un buco all’interno nel quale ho versato la resina e poi inserito la lama e lasciata asciugare.
OCS: What made you join the campaign to save the show? Cosa ti ha fatto unire alla campagna per salvare lo show?
I simply love the show. I love the story, I love the characters (Ava is one of my favorite characters of all time) I love the cast & crew and the love they put into it…I love everything. And the cancellation was something I didn’t expect at all, I was so convinced we were gonna get at least another season…so, yes, joining the campaign came naturally. We need more shows like this, we need representation and we are not gonna stop until we get some.
Semplicemente amo la serie. Amo la storia, i personaggi (Ava è molto probabilmente uno dei miei personaggi preferiti di sempre) amo il cast e la crew e l’amore che hanno messo in questa serie…amo tutto. E la cancellazione non me l’aspettavo per niente, ero così convinta che avremmo avuto almeno un’altra stagione…quindi, sì, unirmi alla campagna è venuto automaticamente. Abbiamo bisogno di più serie così, abbiamo bisogno di rappresentazione e non ci fermeremo finché non avremo ottenuto entrambe.
