OCS: A little about yourself?
My Twitter presence is relatively new. I created this account in January after I had watched both seasons of Warrior Nun and learned with shock about the cancellation of the series. I wanted to find out more about the #SaveWarriorNun campaign and I was looking for ways to get involved. Being in a fandom is new to me, I have never had this experience in the past, although of course I enjoyed stories and characters, but I don't remember anything of this magnitude. For a while, I simply lurked in the shadows, following various posts on TL, hopping silently on spaces, reading articles and listening to podcasts, anything related to this topic. I consumed a lot of fanfiction on AO3 and got used to the idea of SMAUs, which at first seemed to me like a strange form of entertainment. But, above all, I felt attracted and inspired by the diverse and very good quality of fanart in this fandom.
OCS: How did you get into drawing?
I've always been drawing and painting. I had the chance of a fairly protected childhood, so I've been able to explore this passion and convince my parents to send me to an art school pretty early. Later, I also attended the courses of the University of Arts. I have many years of artistic practice behind me, but life took me away from this path for a long time because I followed a career in advertising and although my work is in graphic design, in reality, I ended up drawing very little. The context of the last months, my involvement in this fandom has led me to return to this old passion and shake the dust off it. I don't remember drawing this much in years, but now I do it every day and I find a lot of joy in it.
OCS: What is your process and program do you use?
I used to draw by hand, but after years of working with Adobe programs, such as Illustrator and Photoshop, I sometimes find that doing it on the computer is easier. The first artworks I made and posted on my Twitter account are made in Illustrator, vector drawings that took quite a long time to make because I only used the mouse. But, no longer than a month ago, I decided to finally take the step and invest in a graphic tablet on which I installed Procreate. My latest artworks are explorations of this new program, which is very different from how I worked before, but closer in a way to what I was doing in art school.

OCS: How do you make your style so unique?
I think every artist has a unique style, one way or another. My approach is quite peculiar, however, due to the limitations in terms of tools that I had at the beginning. To draw like this in Illustrator, using only a mouse, can be a rather unexpected and certainly difficult approach. A few of my artist friends told me they can't understand how I do it. What I can say is that this kind of technique taught me the exercise of patience, the ability to trust the process, following the steps without rushing them.
But my style changed quite drastically once I changed the program I worked in. I can now say that I have two different artistic styles, although, with the latter, which is closer to painting, I am still in the stage of exploring.
OCS: You seem to complete paints pretty fast, on average how long does one take you?
Because I only draw in my free time, outside of working time, I can't dedicate more than an hour or two a day to it. For this reason, but also because I still need more practice to get used to drawing faster, an artwork can take me a few days, sometimes even more than a week or two. It's not that fast, I would say, but because I draw a lot, I think the result of my efforts can seem prolific.
OCS: What motivates you to draw Warrior Nun content?
I fell in love with this series back in December, when the second season was aired. I found out about it from an article on Autostraddle and decided to look it up. Like everyone else, after watching it, I was completely crushed by the news of its cancellation and I couldn't believe it. The story ended in a cliffhanger that rattled me so much I needed alternative follow-ups, and knew I would find that in fanfic. Fan fiction writers are really doing God's work by offering us that whole universe in which you can get lost for hours and which is a real relief for fans. Once I finished watching the series, I began to massively consume not only fiction but anything related to this series. After three months of reading hundreds of stories and admiring the work of various artists in the fandom, I felt the need to create my own art. That's how I started to draw. Tentatively at first, then more and more involved until I ended up doing it daily. Things became even more intense and rewarding after I started posting my artworks on Twitter and Instagram, which were incredibly well-received by people in the fandom.
OCS: Who is your favourite character to create?
I think it's no secret and it's very obvious from my work that my favourite character was and always will be Beatrice. I felt a strong connection with this character from the very first scenes and that grew exponentially as the story progressed and her screen presence grew. I feel I have many things in common with Bea, but also things that separate us, so I often don't know if my affection for her is because I want to be like her or because I want to be with her.
I love to draw this character both in canon poses and inspired by AU fiction. At this point, I've become so familiar with her features and the small details that give her character that I think I could draw her with my eyes closed.
At the same time, after so many rewatches of the entire series, my favourite secondary character became Yasmine. I find that she is also an interesting character with a back story that deserves more exploration. She is very smart, funny, attentive and kind. I want more of her in the future. Until then, I want to immortalize her too in a drawing or two. We'll see.
OCS: Why do you share your art with the fandom?
I feel I've taken and I still take a lot from this fandom every day and this is what helps me get over the disappointment produced by Netflix, even now five months later. It's only fair to give something back to the best of my ability. But sharing my art with the fandom is not just charity work. The appreciation I get back gives me great satisfaction and I'm glad I am able to do this. At the same time, against the background of the controversial presence of AI in the field of arts, I feel it is my duty as an artist to redouble my efforts in order to create and showcase a type of honest and clean art based purely on my own inspiration and effort.
OCS: Are you working on anything new?
Yes, I have a lot of ideas and I don't think I'll stop creating artwork connected to this series anytime soon. Lately, I liked to draw landscapes and also interiors, for example, a moment of tranquillity in the Warrior Nun's room, or a view of the church in Cat's Cradle convent. I discovered an attraction for beautiful scenery, which can be found in abundance in the series and have an exceptional cinematographic quality. I loved drawing the scene in S1E6 in which Mary and Ava descend from the mountains, with a pine forest in the background, but also the lake scene in S2E1 where Bea is training Ava. I think my next drawings will explore this type of imaging more.

Ceva despre tine?
Prezența mea pe Twitter este relativ nouă. Am creat acest cont în ianuarie, după ce am urmărit ambele sezoane din Warrior Nun și am aflat cu stupoare despre anularea serialului. Am vrut să aflu mai multe despre campania #SaveWarriorNun și căutam modalități de a mă implica. A fi într-un fandom este o noutate pentru mine, nu am mai avut niciodată această experiență în trecut, deși bineînțeles că mi-au plăcut alte povești și personaje, dar nu-mi amintesc nimic de această amploare. O vreme, pur și simplu am asistat din umbră, urmărind diverse postări și space-uri pe TL, citind articole și ascultând podcasturi, orice avea legătură cu acest subiect. Am consumat mult fanfiction pe AO3 și m-am obișnuit cu ideea SMAU-rilor, care la început mi s-au părut o formă ciudată de divertisment. Dar, mai presus de toate, m-am simțit atrasă și inspirată de calitatea foarte bună a fanart-ului din acest fandom.
Cum ai început să desenezi?
Desenez de când mă știu. Am avut șansa unei copilării destul de protejate așa că am reușit să explorez această pasiune și să-mi conving părinții să mă înscrie la o școală de artă destul de devreme. Mai târziu, am urmat și cursurile Universității de Arte. Am mulți ani de practică artistică în spate, dar viața m-a îndepărtat pentru o vreme lungă de acest domeniu pentru că am urmat o carieră în publicitate și, deși munca mea este în design grafic, în realitate am ajuns să desenez foarte puțin. Contextul ultimelor luni, implicarea mea în acest fandom, m-au determinat să mă întorc la această veche pasiune și să scutur praful de pe ea. Nu-mi amintesc să fii desenat atât de mult de ani de zile, dar acum o fac în fiecare zi și găsesc multă satisfacție în asta.
Care este procesul tău de lucru și ce programe folosești?
Obișnuiam să desenez de mână, dar după ani de lucru cu programele Adobe, precum Illustrator și Photoshop, constat de multe ori că este îmi este mai ușor să o fac pe computer. Primele lucrări pe care le-am postat pe contul meu de Twitter sunt realizate în Illustrator, desene vectoriale care au durat destul de mult pentru că am folosit doar mouse-ul. Dar, cu nu mai mult de o lună în urmă, am decis să fac în sfârșit pasul și să investesc într-o tabletă grafică pe care am instalat Procreate. Ultimele mele desene sunt explorări ale acestui nou program, care este foarte diferit de modul în care lucram înainte, dar mai aproape de ceea ce făceam la școala de artă.
Cum ai reușit să obții un stil artistic atât de deosebit?
Cred că fiecare artist are un stil propriu, într-un fel sau altul. Abordarea mea este însă destul de neobișnuită, din cauza limitărilor în ceea ce privește tool-urile pe care le-am avut la început. A desena astfel în Illustrator, folosind doar un mouse, poate fi o abordare destul de neașteptată și cu siguranță dificilă. Câțiva dintre prietenii mei artiști mi-au spus că nu pot înțelege cum fac asta. Ce pot spune este că acest gen de tehnică m-a învățat exercițiul răbdării, capacitatea de a avea încredere în proces și de-a urma pașii fără să-i grăbesc.
Dar stilul meu s-a schimbat destul de drastic odată ce am schimbat programul în care lucram. Acum pot spune că am două stiluri artistice diferite, deși cu acesta din urmă, care este mai aproape de pictură, sunt încă în stadiul de explorare.
Pare că reușești să termini lucrări întregi foarte repede, cât îți ia în medie una?
Pentru că desenez doar în timpul liber, în afara orelor de lucru, nu pot dedica mai mult de o oră sau două pe zi pentru asta. Din acest motiv, dar și pentru că am nevoie de mai multă practică pentru a mă obișnui cu un stil de-a desena mai rapid, o lucrare îmi poate lua câteva zile, uneori mai mult de o săptămână sau două. Nu este chiar rapid, aș spune, dar pentru că desenez mult, cred că rezultatul eforturilor mele poate părea prolific.
Ce te motivează să creezi conținut artistic legat de Warrior Nun?
M-am îndrăgostit de acest serial încă din decembrie, când a văzut al doilea sezon. Am aflat despre el dintr-un articol de pe Autostraddle și am decis să-l caut. Ca toți ceilalți, am fost complet zdrobită de vestea anulării lui și nu mi-a venit să cred. Povestea s-a încheiat într-un cliffhanger care m-a zguduit atât de tare încât am avut nevoie de continuări alternative și știam că le voi găsi în fanfiction. Scriitorii de fiction fac o muncă cu adevărat specială, oferindu-ne un întreg univers în care te poți pierde ore întregi și care este o reală ușurare pentru fani. Odată ce am terminat serialul, am început să consum masiv nu numai ficțiune, ci tot ce avea legătură cu acest serial. După trei luni în care am citit sute de povești și am admirat munca diverșilor artiști din fandom, am simțit nevoia să-mi creez propriile lucrări. Așa am reînceput să desenez. La început tentativ, apoi din ce în ce mai implicată până când am ajuns să o fac zilnic. Lucrurile au devenit și mai intense după ce am început să postez pe Twitter și Instagram, unde desenele mele au fost incredibil de bine primite de oamenii din fandom
Care este personajul tău favorit?
Cred că nu este un secret și din arta mea este evident că personajul meu preferat a fost și va fi întotdeauna Beatrice. Am simțit o legătură puternică cu acest personaj încă de la primele scene și care a crescut exponențial pe măsură ce povestea a progresat și prezența ei pe ecran a sporit. Simt că am multe lucruri în comun cu Bea, dar și lucruri care ne separă, așa că de multe ori nu știu dacă afecțiunea mea pentru ea este pentru că vreau să fiu ca ea sau pentru că vreau să fiu cu ea. Îmi place să desenez acest personaj atât în ipostaze canon, cât și inspirate din ficțiunile AU. În acest moment, simt că m-am familiarizat atât de mult cu trăsăturile ei și cu micile detalii care îi dau caracter, încât aș putea-o desena cu ochii închiși.
În același timp, după atâtea revizionări ale întregii serii, personajul meu secundar preferat a devenit Yasmine. Găsesc că este interesantă, cu o poveste din spate care merită mai multă explorare. Este foarte inteligentă, amuzantă, atentă și binevoitoare. Îmi doresc mai multe despre ea în viitor. Până atunci, vreau să o imortalizez într-un desen sau două. Vom vedea.
De ce îți împărtășești arta cu fandomul?
Simt că am luat și încă iau multe din acest fandom în fiecare zi și asta este ceea ce mă ajută să trec peste dezamăgirea produsă de Netflix. Este corect să dau ceva înapoi pe cât îmi permit abilitățile. Dar să împărtășesc arta mea cu fandomul nu este doar o muncă de caritate. Aprecierea pe care o primesc înapoi îmi oferă o mare satisfacție și mă bucur că sunt în stare să fac asta. În același timp, pe fondul prezenței controversate a inteligenței artificiale în domeniul artelor plastice, simt că este de datoria mea ca artist să-mi dublez eforturile pentru a crea și a prezenta un tip de artă onestă și curată bazată exclusiv pe propria mea inspirație și pe propriul efort.
Lucrezi la ceva nou?
Da, am o mulțime de idei și nu cred că mă voi opri din a crea lucrări legate de această serie prea curând. În ultima vreme, mi-a plăcut să surprind peisaje și interioare, de exemplu un moment de liniște în camera Călugăriței Războinice, sau o vedere a bisericii din Cat's Cradle. Am descoperit o atracție pentru cadre scenografice, care se regăsesc din belșug în serial și care au o calitate cinematografică excepțională. Mi-a plăcut să desenez scena din S1E6 în care Mary și Ava coboară din munți, cu o pădure de pini în fundal, dar și scena lacului din S2E1 în care Bea o antrenează pe Ava. Cred că următoarele desene vor explora mai mult acest tip de imagistică.
