IN THIS LIFE OR THE NEXT

When I first came across that phrase, I thought it was so well put - there is gravitas to it, a heaviness so intertwined with the concept of certainty: it looks a lot like faith.

Warrior Nun holds a deep place in my heart - as many others have mentioned before, it is an incredible body of work, intricate and well-made - it does not only delve into a strange and enticing story, but for myself and many others, it has truly been the first tv show to reconcile ourselves with religion.

The philosophical aspect of the show, along with its humour, its science and its lore, has hooked me in, desperate for more. It is why I keep fighting for it, and despite really, really not wanting to succumb to hope - it remains, dormant, as I try to look towards the future.

In this life or the next, to me, is acceptance. Acceptance and humility, for things you cannot change, yet go towards, hoping that someone or something will catch you.

In this life or the next, to me, is a promise. A promise to be reunited no matter the outcome, a silent agreement that there is something else out there, intangible, but true.

In this life, when Mary growls it, is a powerful statement of someone ready to fight, ready to lay down her life for a cause; I admire it, I think, as nothing in my life has yet come quite close.

In the next, is said in a hurry almost, almost like prayer, with a casualness to it - it is endearing almost, if not for the life-and-death matter of things; perhaps it is due to the habitual nature with which these sister warriors throw themselves into battle.

In this life and the next? Both? A promise to continue, to seek for each other despite odds - I wonder if it will hold true.

In this life or the next, or so we keep saying – the fight continues, on so many different levels, as the battle shifts and changes into something bigger, something stronger. Anger is a powerful thing - and we see it so frequently in Warrior Nun. It fuels us, it connects us, it pushes us past something, and we will be changed on that other side.

Maybe.

Hopefully.

I'm not quite sure.

In this life or the next, is trust, perhaps blind, but something strong. Something fierce. Something true.
