THE VERY BEST OF THE WARRIOR NUN FANDOM

It started with 4 and ended with 31, all in the space of two weeks. This is what happened when one HaloBearer had an idea to give back to the Warrior Nun fandom by donating the Haloed Fanart Charity Book to others. Not only did the idea catch on but it demonstrates the very best of what we stand for as a community.

Although they didn’t do this for recognition, the OCS Newsletter wanted to showcase this amazing displace of community and giving.

The following message was reprinted from a tweet by Jen @RainyMonday126 from August 7, 2023.

Two weeks ago, I offered to pay for a complete edition of the Haloed Art book for 4 randomly drawn Warrior Nun fans. I was immediately contacted by @e_l_skye, who offered to sponsor 2 more books. What happened after that was a whirlwind of excitement and chaos. After the dust settled, a total of 13 donors were offering to sponsor a mind-blowing 31 books!

I drew numbers (from an entry pool of 137 people) and started contacting the winners. The joy that I experienced in the moments that followed was unmatched, and when possible, I tried to spread that joy to the rest of the donors in our group chat.

My original intention was simply to provide, within my means, the chance for more people to receive the Haloed Art book. Because of its impressive size and impeccable quality, the book comes with a steep price point, which I knew would prevent a lot of fandom members from accessing it. But in true Warrior Nun style, this community showed up for each other.

We ended up sending books to fandom members in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, the Philippines, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and the USA. Ultimately, these purchases also contributed $290 to the Covenant House donation!

Thank you to everyone that boosted my original tweet and the update tweets. Thank you to the 12 other donors (tagged here), whose selflessness and support encouraged me to keep going! Thank you also for trusting me with your identities and your money. Thank you to @Zereptina for providing an added layer of security and accountability. Thank you to the 31 winners that gave their home addresses to a stranger on the Internet... but also thank you for your reactions, joy, and kind words.

This project became something SO much bigger than I was ever expecting. These two weeks have been a real test of my administrative abilities, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Every single person that touched this project had a hand in spreading love around this fandom and I'm proud of all of you. Take care of each other. Take care of your community. Thank you.

These 13 Halobearers donated $1,911.99 to cover the total cost with shipping and tax.
